Almost 13 months old
Kate and Aiden got sick and life got totally awful!! They were clingy, grizzly and unhappy. Aaron and I had the cold too so we were a bit the same. Gee, life was fun in the Hendry household that fortnight! Thank goodness they are over it because it was terrible.
Aiden is now fully weaned without incident. He loves the bottle and will crawl over and get it and then pass it to us so we will hold it and he can drink it (he doesn't hold the bottle himself). His sleeping is still less than perfect. He continues to wake between 4-5am. We have tried the controlled crying but all that does at that time of the morning is prolong the agony. Now we just give him a quick bottle and he falls back to sleep. His day time sleeps haven't been all that wonderful either. I am hoping some molars appear and this explains it all. He certainly isn't his usual sunny self (and I have huge arm muscles from having to carry him everywhere).
Kate on the other hand is all sun and smiles. She has turned into a champion sleeper. We put her to bed at 7:30pm and wake her at 7:30am. She has two daytime sleeps and is really delightful to be around. Won't be long before her teeth start playing up and she changes places with Aiden. That's how it always goes!
The other day Aaron, the kids and I went for a walk. Along the way we picked up a dog called Lucy who ran along beside us limping away. She followed us home and even came inside. Itchy took one look and arched his back," Gosh what have you bought home THIS time??". Luckily Lucy had a phone number on her tag and her owner came to collect her. I think with twins and three cats, we have our hands full.
I was walking along outside the supermarket and a lady, trying to raise awareness, stopped me and asked, "Do you have time for Greenpeace?" I looked down at Kate and Aiden and replied, "Do I look like I have time for Greenpeace?" Enough said!
Kate has started dancing to her favourite parts of the baby video. She comes flying from which ever part of the house in which she is playing and starts clapping and dancing, bouncing up and down on her knees. Aiden has started responding to, "Give Mummy a kiss." His idea of a "kiss" leaves a lot to be desired...it's a big sloppy open mouth!
Kate and Aiden are cruising around holding on to the furniture and will "walk" when we drag them along by their arms however they resemble an old man who has had too much to drink. We are still several months away from walking I think.

Boy we are tired around here. Aiden's 4am waking for a bottle is taking it's toll, especially when one of them then wakes at 6 - 6:30am. I think we will be re-trying the controlled crying to get Aiden off that bottle. We are fantasizing about staying overnight in a hotel just for an uninterrupted night's sleep. Knowing our luck we would wake continuously!
Kate is trying really hard to talk. She gibbers away and says, "At...at" a lot. We have been reading lots of books to Kate and Aiden and pointing out the names of things on their video. Aiden says, "Di...di...di" for everything. He absolutely LOVES his book and follows us around with them in hand, hoping to convince us to read it to him.
For a moment they got distracted by their toys so I grabbed the opportunity to make them some tuna morney. Within minutes they sensed I had gone and they came crawling over at the speed of light. So there I was, trying to stop the butter from burning, hanging on to one baby and the other had a vice-like grip on my leg, crying. Somehow I managed to get the saucepan off the heat without burning Aiden and then Kate decided to jam her fingers in the drawer and proceeded to scream the place down. Thank goodness it was almost naptime!
Sometimes when Kate and Aiden are grumpy I throw them into the car and go to the shops. I have approximately 1.3726548 seconds to get myself ready so there I sat at the Shopping Centre Cafe, 9am, in full view of everyone when I bump into an old school friend. He's chatting away and I am trying to remember who the hell he is (I was up at 4am with Aiden). I am trying to stop Kate and Aiden from ripping each other's hair out and I am secretly hoping my hair wasn't sticking out in too many directions. I seem to also recall catching my reflection and seeing mascara down around my cheeks. Oh well.......I'm a mother of twins.
School is really really busy and I am finding it a challenge to balance my life. I am very tired and a bit overloaded with what is happening in a busy classroom and a busy school. Hopefully it will settle down soon.
On a sunnier note we have spent some time outside much to Kate and Aiden's delight! Soon it will be Spring and they will be able to explore a whole lot more.
